‘In the sleepy town of Portmagee’ was how many of the tabloids were describing the small town on the Ring of Kerry during the filming of the Star Wars Movie, The Force Awakens.
It was an exciting time for the town with The Moorings, Guest House hosting the pre-production team for their meetings.
The spectacular panoramas of Kerry’s Wild Atlantic Way has provided the backdrop for one of cinema’s most iconic and eagerly awaited films in recent movie history and the island of Skellig Michael off Kerry’s Wild Atlantic Coast was a key location.
The strange, isolated landscape lends itself perfectly to the mind-bending galactic universe of the iconic Star Wars series.

Skellig Michael has since become the fascination of Star Wars fans as many wish to visit the location and get a feel for what really happened during the filming of the movie as recalled by the locals, maybe take boat trips to and around Skellig Michael and soak up the traditional Irish atmosphere.
